spark plugs

Good Morning, tapping into the font of all knowledge again :) My engine is a Rollason Ardem, originally 1500 but now 1834, ignition is twin Leburg. The data I have is rather old and calls out Champion L T or Lodge H N plugs. these are old designations and when I look up the current alternatives they...

Re: original Nipper brake system

I am currently in the process of changing from my original wheels to 4x400 to get better availability of tyres. My concern is getting caught away from home with a u/s tyre and no spare - I've been quoted £400+ for new old stock. I'm sure you can probably get them cheaper, they used to be common on p...

Re: Nipper firewall

Good Evening Paul, This could get a little tricky with the ply patterns and hand bashing but at least the base material is cheap enough. I've managed to elevate myself to a sufficient level of competence with CAD to be able to draw up parts to print out full size and compare against the original. I'...

Re: Nipper firewall

Thanks Paul, I've reverse engineered my firewall to create a drawing which I believe is pretty well correct. I am going to print it out full size (A1 at the local print shop) and photo-mount it onto the new material. That should get all the fixing holes in the right place. Then I'll sandwich it betw...

Nipper firewall

Good Evening All, Anybody got a copy of a drawing of the firewall? Preferably dimensioned and scanned or in electronic format? I've just abandoned trying to repair the one on my Nipper and bought some 0.5mm steel sheet to make a new one. It will be easier than all the patching up required on an alre...

Re: Zentih carburettor - service or replace?

Good Morning Paul, I think I'll gather information about the Stromberg alternative via this and the LAA website and also Engineering. The information I have so far is that the CD150 is fine for the 1835 although the jets need changing. There must be many examples of this engine with the CD150 flying...

Re: Zentih carburettor - service or replace?

Thanks Paul, I contacted Paul Grellier but doesn't hold any Zenith spares. I've got an enquiry outstanding with a vintage carb business but this particular version isn't on their website.

The best advice I've had so far is to swap it out for a Stromberg CD150, which is much more common.

Zentih carburettor - service or replace?

Hi All, My Rollason 'Ardem' engine is fitted with a Zenith 32KL-P10 carburettor. Has anybody any source for a service kit for this unit? I cannot find one. Maybe it is just the gasket which separates the bowl from the throttle portion. Alternatively is anybody using an alternative carburettor for wh...

Re: Leburg tacho signal

Ah but if I move the batteries aft I can tune the CofG to exactly where I want it :D

Also it will give some clearance between the back of the prop and the front of the cowling. They were perilously close  I think the engine mounts weren't Nipper original.

Re: Leburg tacho signal

Nothing too exotic Neil ! I've removed the mechanical tacho link from my VW and want to use the Leburg output. Some time ago I speculatively bought some lovely surplus meters, 270 degree needle sweep and in a case which is geometrically compatible with the standard 80mm instrument format. Even marke...

Leburg tacho signal

I need to discover the format of the Leburg unit tacho signal - in particular the pulse width and if it is constant width or variable with speed. Voltage and positive going or negative going would also be useful.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Re: OWNERS 'TESTIMONIALS' - WHAT ARE THEY LIKE TO OWN & FLY

Hi Ross, There is a mandatory inspection of the wing bolts under the LAA permit scheme in the UK. The bolts must be pulled and checked for cracks. If serviceable they can be refitted, otherwise new bolts are required. They aren't readily obtainable so an alternative is to use studs that used to be a...

Re: OWNERS 'TESTIMONIALS' - WHAT ARE THEY LIKE TO OWN & FLY

If anybody is interested I am replacing my hubs and tyres of the 'unobtainable' sort for hubs to take 400 x 4 tyres. The price for a new tyre was > £400 +VAT and no inner tubes available  . I was worried that I could get stuck indefinitely somewhere away from base with a u/s tyre. I've design...
