Re: VW 1834 RPM increase with Carb Heat on

Sounds to me like its running too lean, and therefore application of carb heat is enriching it closer to the correct mixture. The carb heat will introduce hotter air which is less dense, normally causing a drop in RPM through richer running. Because you are starting off from a position of running to...

Still here!

Hello All, I am aware that I have not been very active on the forum for many months. I am still here and still as passionate about our little aircraft as ever was. NIPR is currently getting some modding by the clever man called Paul Grellier near Winchester and hasn't been flown since September. I a...

Another Nipper in a scrape.

Another Nipper in a scrape, turning into to a rather bad year for damaged Nippers.

I hope whoever it was is flying again soon...

Re: LAA RALLY 2011- Who's going this year?

John, That sounds great. I was going to pop into Beryls place at Fishburn, but Linley might be better. Could you give me some more details such as precise location and dimensions please? I will be aiming to leave INV on the Friday early AM, subject to weather and get to your area by just after noon....

G-CBCK Badly damaged - Took off with insufficient fuel.

It seems that G-CBCK suffered significant damage in January when the pilot ('Pilot' magazines editor at the time!) attempted to take off with an empty tank. This would be the same aircraft showing in a recent issue of 'Pilot' magazine clearly showing an overstress on the g-meter. http://www.aaib.gov...

Nipper Force Landing - Pilot Ok.

Internet press reports say that G-ATBW (the yellow and black one) has force landed, apparently rather well, into a field in Hanningfield, Essex. Pilot reported as walking away with no injury. No mention could be found about damage to the airframe. Reports also state that the prop detached in flight....

-11 deg.C. No Problem!

Seasons greetings one and all, I hope you are enjoying the weather! We have had an awful lot of snow up here, and followed by a very harsh frozen period. Ground temperatures overnight have dipped to minu 20 deg. C and some daytime temps have been minus 11 or 12! I have managed to fly though, and rea...

G-NIPR Air to Air - August 2010.

Hello All, I have received the results of a recent air to air sortie in my locality, and they are probably the best I have had to date. They were taken on the 14th August 2010, over the Black Isle in the Highlands of Scotland. The pictures were taken with a high end digital SLR , from a Cherokee 161...

Re: LAA Rally 2010. Inverness - Sywell - Trip report. (Part 6)

The LAA rally was seen by most as a success and I enjoyed my weekend thoroughly. The entertainment was good, beer prices fair, and enough interesting stalls to pass the time. I bought a couple of bits and pieces but of course was very limited in what I could carry home. I had managed to persuade Nig...

Re: LAA Rally 2010. Inverness - Sywell - Trip report. (Part 5)

Got the tent pitched with some help from the Highland strut fellas, and we all went for a very welcome pub dinner and drink. Life felt good. I was quite excited about the prospect of camping under the wing and was looking forward to settling in for the night. It's one of those aviation must do's and...

Re: LAA Rally 2010. Inverness - Sywell - Trip report. (Part 4)

Phew! Nearly there. Just had to get to Sywell before closing time of 1900 local. Once settled in the cruise my trusty old Garmin said eta of 1858! I didn't want it to be that tight so I put an extra 100 rpm on and tweaked the route to take out a dog leg. New eta 1849. So much better! The route towar...

Re: LAA Rally 2010. Inverness - Sywell - Trip report. (Part 3)

After yet more bacon (well it was lunchtime 2 hours ago), I made my way out from Fisburn avoiding the Teesside zone and headed for Sandtoft. IMG_7064_800x600.jpg A bit more to see on this leg, several large cities and towns and numerous airfields to avoid. The military units at Leeming and Church Fe...
