Re: Spinning

The mod involves welding a new stern post, dismantling the rudder and attaching the front of the rudder to the new stern post. The remaining rudder hinges on the new stern post.
New upper bracing bars support the stern post.
The mod makes the a/c much more directionaly stable.

Re: Spinning

Hi Sven, The suggested flick entry should be slow enough for no damage to occur, but, the Nipper is not approved for flicks apart from G-ONCS & G-VICA which are modified by myself and have received approval. To my mind the flying rudder seems rather fragile which is why I modified my aircraft. E...

Re: OWNERS 'TESTIMONIALS' - WHAT ARE THEY LIKE TO OWN & FLY

Only rolled threads allowed on such a critical fastener. Paul Gruellier at Airweld has them in stock. The AD came about due to some bolts that were crack tested and found to be failing around the bolt head. Hence the studs do not need inspection, but the bolts do. Check the LAA TADS for the Nipper. ...

Re: Rudder Pedal Bungees

Hi Ronald,

I have just made up some.....£40 per pair plus P&P.

They are terminated correctly, not just knotted. With stainless hooks.

Best wishes,

Re: spark plugs

I am not sure I answered your question Jim. The W7AC is a "colder" plug, ie it is designed to work under harder conditions than the W8AC......I would run the W8AC in a normal 1600, and the W7AC in a 1834/2180cc, but it also depends on your compression ratio and how hard you run the engine,...

Re: mystery magneto

The dual Bendix magneto was a unit used on the Nippers, you will find a few Nippers with a box on the firewall that projects below the fuel tank which accommodated it........I have not seen one of these Ducelier magnetos before, but they will do the same job. Much better than the dual chain driven L...

Re: VW exhaust scheme

This is the later system I am currently working on, but I have not flight tested it yet, and suspect it is not good for noise. The photos do indicate the hot air pick up that I am promoting. If you have a stromberg of other fixed choke carb' then a good hot air supply is a must. This is a Mk1 versio...

Re: VW exhaust scheme

Hi Jim, Beware moving the engine forward " because I increased the length of my engine mounts by 3mm ", it will move your CofG forward. Adding weight to the tail is self defeating and adds to the moment of inertia of the a/c which can adversely affect spin recovery. It is quite feasible to...

Re: Nipper firewall

Hi Jim, The original closed cowlings were tight to the top of the firewall, and had about a 1" gap around the lower half except for where the cowling meets the nose leg. The green cowling fitting you are showing in your photo looks like a standard fitting, except it has been turned 90 deg so it...
