Re: LeBurg ignition installation
Yes Paul, the hangar behind is the old GSA hangar, now used for renting out at humongous costs by Bicester Heritage for events. I peeked in once when it was being prepared for a wedding and it had a full size old style merry go round down one end and catering for ~ 150 in the main part, plus a bands...

Re: LeBurg ignition installation
At last !!! After much midnight oil on the mechanical installation: Quite a lot of work to get the Leburg system sparking: And a nightmare sorting out the fuel system - including removing a leaking Curtis drain valve that appears to have had locktite as a seal  The first run of the modified V...

mystery magneto
Hi all,
In a box of goodies which came with some VW engines I received recently came this dual mag.
Anybody know anything about it, what it was used for etc? It's probably not much good for a Nipper as it would stick through the firewall quite a bit.

Re: SEV Fuel Pump, service or replace
That looks just the job and it's cheaper than the rebuild kits. I may just invest in one for the spares box.
A combination of rotating the top and replacing the brass fittings with angled ones as necessary would surely make the fuel pipery work fine.

Re: SEV Fuel Pump, service or replace
Some progress on the SEV pump. I emailed a photo of the pump to VW Heritage and they sent me what they thought would be the service kit, unfortunately it turned out to be completely unsuitable. This is probably because they were working on the age of the engine and the assumption it was in a vehicle...

Re: VW exhaust scheme
Good Evening Dave, Thanks for that picture which is surely worth a thousand words! I have concluded that the top fixings should be flush with the top edge of the firewall and that the Nipper drawing I have is in error. It would look rather strange for the top of the cowling to stick up 10mm from the...

Re: VW exhaust scheme
Thanks David, that looks like a good starting point to copy. I like the hot air pickup inside the cowling. I have a secondary problem with my existing set in that the port forward lower spark plug points directly at the port fwd exhaust pipe and the right angle plug cap and ignition cable are very c...

VW exhaust scheme
Has anybody got any photos of their exhaust installation - cowlings off - that they could share? My Nipper has the 4 downward open pipes arrangement but they are crudely made of mild steel and won't last for long. I'd like to fit a system made in stainless and a silenced arrangement wouldn't go amis...

Re: Nipper firewall
I've come up against a head-scratching moment in my firewall replacement, best illustrated by the attached pictures: 1. The clip from a Mk3 drawing shows all the attachment points for the cowling to be protruding from the firewall, this would result in the aft lip of the top cowling sitting with a g...

The only information I have is that one of the answers to my enquiries was that it was used on a post war Morris van.

Re: SEV Fuel Pump, service or replace
I think you'll find that getting a service kit for that carburettor will be challenging. I've tried many specialists, including the manufacturer, and the usual response I've had was 'haven't seen one of them for years!'. By good fortune I was wandering around the flea market on the last day of the r...

Re: SEV Fuel Pump, service or replace
Word of caution here; I believe some after market pumps have plastic parts substituted for metal bits in the original. I picked this up from one of the engineering forums (fora?), These may be unsuitable, I can't remember why. I have the same engine so will be looking for a service kit or replacemen...

Good Morning, tapping into the font of all knowledge again :) My engine is a Rollason Ardem, originally 1500 but now 1834, ignition is twin Leburg. The data I have is rather old and calls out Champion L T or Lodge H N plugs. these are old designations and when I look up the current alternatives they...

Re: original Nipper brake system
I am currently in the process of changing from my original wheels to 4x400 to get better availability of tyres. My concern is getting caught away from home with a u/s tyre and no spare - I've been quoted £400+ for new old stock. I'm sure you can probably get them cheaper, they used to be common on p...
