Re: Restoration of ZS-UAD, Tipsy Nipper T66 mk 1
Now that i have all the ply joined etc, i decided to preshape the ply around the LE. It is amazing how such thin ply can resist bending even after a thorough steaming but after much sweat and bad language  , the ply capitulated and did what i wanted of it !! Re: Restoration of ZS-UAD, Tipsy Nipper T66 mk 1
Hi all, Sorry for the very loud silence of late :D but things are starting to move again. After a long wait, i managed to get the correct plywood for the leading edges and now have plucked up the courage to cut up all that lovely ply into the right sizes. Each side of the wing needs 3 pieces and one...

Re: Cooling
Well done sir!!!!!
I like the colour scheme Unfortunately i cannot help you with baffle patterns as my Nipper's engine hangs out in the breeze
Country side looks lovely, is it in England somewhere?
Wish you many happy and safe hours !
Regards
Glen

Re: Restoration of ZS-UAD, Tipsy Nipper T66 mk 1
Hi Neil, Have not done much on the Nipper lately, work pressures etc. Have eventually sourced the correct ply to replace the leading edges of the wings. The old ply has been removed and the woodwork prepared. Remember, this is a Mk1 frame, where the mountings were simply a small tube through the fra...

Hi Jeff, Pleased to "meet" you, thanks for taking the time to write to me. Besides myself, you are the first person that has contacted me that has flown UAD ! UAU is a sad story, it was stolen !!!!! from Phil Geers and to this day he has not seen it again. He ran up to me at Margate when h...

Hi Tom,
I have used a rotax 912 airfilter on my "homemade" airbox, still to prove if it will work
Hope this inspires an idea or two !

Glen

Re: Fuselage bits and pieces
Hi Willem, My main bow was in a sad state so i made a wooden template, purchased the right size 4130 tubing and with a little heating up and bending, made my self a very nice main bow. The end bow by the tail plane can be formed in the same fashion. The two bows inbetween are simply aluminium tubing...

Hi Neil,
Your "flat spin vid" on youtube has caused a discussion about spins on the local aviation blog here
If you do not mind, can you join and have some input, the SA pilots would appreciate it.

Hi All, Check out the Infinity singles and the Smart singles, small and lightweight. Even a small G meter, perfect for limited (Nipper) sized panels Funny thing, they made here in SA and with the Pound/Rand currency conversion, these should be good value for money. http://www.mglavionics.co.za/ Rega...

Re: Restoration of ZS-UAD, Tipsy Nipper T66 mk 1
Hi Neil, Thanks for the kind words  UAD had the original 3 1/2 inch rims and for the love of money, i could not get new tyres to fit this odd size rim. The present tyres and rims are used in industrial (of some sort) and are 4.00x4 inch. the rims are pressed steel, little heavy but strong and h...

Been busy making new engine baffling and in between that, i'v stripped the undercart and rims down to bear metal. I applied two coats of etch primer this afternoon.
