Nippers in the South East?

Hi I am interested in the type and looking for my first aircraft and a good stable mate for my father's RV7.

The nipper seams to ticks quite a few boxes in terms of a cheap to operate fun aircraft, suitable for a newly qualified pilot, though to-date I have not really looked at one close up in terms of considering ownership and operating.

Are there any enthusists in the South East who would not mind me having a closer look at their aircraft and a general chat at some point?
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

I'm new to " Nippering" too. Your Welcome to come and see if you fit in the aircraft and peruse the extensive history file and assorted Tech Manuals that came with mine.
I'm unaware of your S.E. England location but here's mine:
Currently based (temporarily) at North Weald in Essex if you are up for a flying visit let me know here.
regards, Mark

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the reply, I have sent you a PM or at least I have tried to.
Would be great to fly in and have a look at your nipper at some point when the weather allows.

Hi Tom,
I have 2.5 Nippers for restoration in my workshop (just north of Colchester).........I have another project to start/finish before I restore/modify the Nippers, so I am not sure when I will get them down from the ceiling of my workshop, but if you wish to meet up after the Covid restrictions are lifted you are more than welcome.
Best wishes,
Neil

Hi all, I'm yet another new to 'nippering' member and from Essex. I've thought about owning a nipper on and off since I got my PPL back in the early seventies. My big question is this, the prototype Nipper OO-NIP sn01 had an open cockpit and low back, is there any reason why a nipper could not be configured like that now? Since the late eighties I've been flying single seat open cockpit microlights and miss the breeze in my face.

Hi Andy,
Welcome aboard and to the world of Nippers.
The prototype suffered with control issues due to the turbulent air created by the open canopy. The design was quickly altered to an enclosed canopy to alleviate this. The distance from the canopy/cockpit is very close to the tailgroup.
In the past a "bubble" canopy was made which was wider than the original, this too created problems.

Hi Mark. I’ve just got a nipper too. Actually I’ve met Tom and it turns out we were both looking at buying the same one! (1959 factory built Mk1) I’d be really interested in having a look at yours. I’m based at Popham (for the immediate future) let Me know when you are available and I’ll fly up to meet you. Best regards. Malcolm

Hi fellow Nipper Enthusiasts,

A number of guys have been trying to contact me regarding my MK2 Nipper G-NIPS...

The events of this extraordinary year, have conspired to lead me to the sad decision to sell G-NIPS.
I had managed to get her in a hangar at North Weald through January-June. Unfortunately I was obliged to move her and she currently resides at Top Farm- North Herts/Cambridgeshire borders.A fair distance from me.

I will be arranging A fresh Annual before sale....She has only flown 15Hrs. since the last Annual.
I will upload an Ad. to Afors but thought it fair to give a heads up here initially...

Many Thanks
regards to all

Sorry to hear you’re selling your Nipper. Good luck in finding it a new home.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful response.

I was hoping to turn up at your home field one summer day.
! saw your lovely Nipper on display at the last LAA Rally @ Sywell.
Suitably Inspired, I was further driven to find my nipper G-nips
I love the aircraft but, whilst desperately seeking hangarage, it was unavoidably left out in the rain for a couple of days....I swear it shrunk!!
Ideally a shorter person would be far more comfortable in her.
She is really smart and handles beautifully.

Best Wishes,
Mark

Mark,
Do you have the tall pilot mod'? Either the extended rudder pedals, or the reclined seat back?

Hi Neil,

So, I was actually booked in with Paul Grellier to have the rudder pedal extensions done. I was due to deliver the aircraft to him on the 23rd of March....Of course this was day one of the lockdown and we had to postpone.!!

She is now due an annual and for this I am flying to Turweston this coming Wednesday. If all goes well here I will probably still get the extensions done....im flying with my knees on the spar my left hand on the stick and my right hand across my body on to the throttle....not ideal, and I'm just six foot.
The seat is a beautifully constructed ,leather covered affair It has the "cargo" bag behind large enough for overnight essentials ,tools, tie downs and chocks....I wouldn't want to loose that....

Thinks !! Once the annual is completed I guess it would be sensible to offer the aircraft for sale before any mods are done.

Its a nightmare to get affordable hangarage around the North of London, Herts/Beds etc. I am near to four microlight strips that would be perfectly adequate. They all refuse to allow a "group A aircraft"to be based there!

Cheers,
Mark G

Hi Mark

I know one or two taller Nipper pilots who have the mod and fly very comfortably. Most notably, David Greenwood, seen here on a visit to Breighton. Easily 6’.
Shame about your hangarage issues. The Nipper takes up no room at all and I’m quite peeved that I have to pay the same as a Zlin or Chipmunk, but at least I’m welcome.

Hope you get sorted...

Kate
