Nikasil Cylinders

Postby Neil Spooner » Tue Dec 18, 2007 9:40 am

Hi All,

I am building a spare engine for G-ONCS, and am using a Great Plains engine I imported. I am going to fit the Nikasil cylinders, but on very close inspection have found they are not Nikasil at all.......they are steel lined. It is not a problem, and still make the cylinders about 10lbs lighter. The original Mahle and Stamo cylinders were lined Alloy.

The engine will be a 2180cc unit, using Great Plains long throw Crankshaft, this is about 6lbs heavier being fully counterweighted, so the overall weight saving on this engine is only about 4 lbs, but with an out put of 76hp at max power I hope the improvement will be worth it.

I will keep you informed of anything worthwhile.

Niel,

Does this mean we are at last going to see a Nipper with VW power AND electric self start? Please keep us informed of progress.
