The Aviators TV show and flat spins.

Postby Neil Spooner » Fri Jan 08, 2010 9:58 am

Hi Guys,
Just thought I would share a video on the 'net of a new show that is being aired in Canada, and eventually the USA. I provided them with the footage of the flat spin in order to help promulgate awareness of this phenomenon. I am really pleased with what they have done. Here is the link:

Happy spinning!!

Thanks for the link Neil,
I liked the show, but what a shame that they don't do their homework properly. When they were chatting to the C-5M pilot (2:25 on), all their footage was of a C-17, apart from a single 'open hold' shot from the front of the aircraft!

Still gives me the heebie jeebies watching that flat spin...

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the comments.

I too don't enjoy watching the spin, but to further aviation safety I think it would be selfish to "sit on it". Incidentally the Nipper is not prone to flat spinning unless you load it rearwards, which applies to any a/c.

I feel the same way and posted a video of me nearly stuffing a flexwing due to a combination of avoidable factors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pqUbqPEKpM and I've submitted a few CHIRPS as well.
Good to know the Nipper's not prone to flat spins (!) as I've yet to spin AVKI and to be honest I've been a little hesitant to do so. Am waiting until I can do some spin refresher training dual first though.

cheers

Gary

Thanks for sharing that.....experience is that thing you need 2 seconds ago!! The environment we operate in is a very fluid one and not to be taken for granted.
Happy spinning!
