Prop

Postby ben » Wed Jan 05, 2011 5:03 pm

Anyone want to sell a prop circa 56 x 34. Doesn't need to be perfect just useable.

I am also in the market for engine cowlings ( preferably the early type), the forward belly cowling and the rear cowlings. Damaged and repairable would be fine

HI,

I have a HRA prop that's about 57 x 32.4 - It was a little bit fine for 1834vw on my FRED, but would have really improved it's climb performance.

Hi,

I got confused on the pitch between 2 props.

I have an EVRA DRG Z3404//3/c 4.5 x 2.7 ie 54 x 32.4 inches

I also have a HRA 78 G ( 6'69) DRG HR 1201 4 A 4.75 X 2.45 ie 57 x 29.4

The Evra needs abit of touching up with paint, the HRA is very clean

Hi Ben,

If you would like to stick with the early cowlings I do have my originals which are perfect, I only removed them to make the new longer ones for my engine. I also have a Chris Lodge prop from my 1834, but I think it will be too fine for your revmaster. The original 1834 ran a 56" x 34" the 2180 is perfect on a 56" x 40". I get 3050 rpm static, WOT at 1000' I get 3450 rpm at 100kts.

Just a thought.....you may want to check your prop' flange, it may be a different size to the stock VW. My Revmaster has a SAE #1 4-3/8″ bolt circle. The std VW is a 5" dia flange with a 4" bolt circle I believe.

Hi Neil

Could be interested in your "old cowlings". I did consider standard cowlings initially simply with a deeper spinner to compensate for the Revmaster's extra 2" of hub length. Any views?

Re the prop I thought I'd try an old one that's about right, see what revs I get and then go from there. I take your point on the flange size. Mine has several sets of holes. I'll measure them!!

Hi Ben,
You are welcome to buy the old style cowlings, I think they must be worth £300, as they are perfect, only probably the wrong colour! You would spend the best part of that in resin/glass to make a set, not including your time. The Barry Smith type cowlings are much tighter, so compromise you engine carb/inlet manifold/airbox space.
The hp your engine develops and hence the rpm is dependant on your inlet manifold/exhaust etc, so you may be ok, but I would think you will need 4-6" extra pitch on a std 1834 prop.
