Engine Mounts Mk3

Postby Tipsy Flyer » Fri Aug 21, 2009 6:45 pm

Hi all,
I am at the stage where i need to manufacture new engine mounts therefore upgrading my Nipper fuse to Mk3 mounts. I have collected a number of pic's of the mounts and have found varies different variations of these. I am aware that some are "homemade" so variations will be present.
I understand how the flat pieces that form the top and the front/rear pieces are made but i need to know how the "tube" that the bolt goes through, is made ?
What wall thickness should i use for the flat pieces?
Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks

Regards
Glen

Glen,

Your picture shows my MKII G-ARBG which differs from the MKIII in both spacing of mounts and detail. Detail of the MKIII mounting is to be found on Drg No. T66 M6011 probably available from Alan at Nipper kits.
Alternatively I was involved in modifying Harry Van de Meer's MKII recently and he may still have the drawings or passed them on to Richard cook who bought the project from him (aerohar@tiscali.nl)

Another view of a MKIII (as well as end plates, tubes enter washer welded to either end which are faced off 38mm overall)

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the photo's of the mounts, it is much appreciated.
Dave Taylor was kind enough to take same photo's and measure his mounts for me and by the look of the frame, it must have been a Mk 1 with the MKIII mounts added sometime in it's life. Dave's mounts look very much like the photo you posted here today.
I have been trying to fax a letter to Alan at Nipper kits as i am looking for 4 elevator hinges but for some reason, i'm having no success in getting through. Have you got any idea's on how to get hold of Allan, sorry to be a pain in the a.. but it is so difficult when one is 10 000 miles for England.
Below are Dave T's photo and drawing that he mailed to me.

Glen,

I only have the MKII drawings but having modified Harry Van de Meers MKII I know he has the drawings you need unless he passed them on to Richard Cook with his Nipper project.
Email me on VGCNews@aol.com and I will let you have the MKII drawings which will give some guidance.

R.

David
